This is the traditonal form of the manual taxi in Vietnam, or pedicab/trishaw, that has been officially banned on most major routes. I took this at a Vietnamese restaurant and kind of made my friends sit right under the display just so I can photograph it ;) You can't see the third wheel on the back, but this [link] is what it really looks like. There is a movie [link] of the same title that my university screened for Asian Heritage month that kind of disturbed me :| but educational nonetheless.. But chya, it'd be nice if I could use this display in a real photo shoot.. I just loved how it looks aged, but still preserved, kind of like the bike went through a lot before getting to America and finally relaxing in a fancy restaurant  harhar.. I'm too imaginative :bucktooth:

Photoshopped to emphasize colours and textures.

cyclo the movie? i think i watched 15 minutes of that then turned it off. its not produced by a viet person, so the direction of the movie is a western dream (Christophe Rossignon's dream - he's the producer). the director is Tran Anh Hung and i think all his movies are horrible. he is of viet decent, but he moved to paris at the age of 12, so he really doesnt have a viet mind. more of a french mind with the romanticism and eroticism common in france, which explains why all three of his movies deal with sex, sexual affairs, and more sex. he doesnt know much about viet culure either. in his movies, you can see motives and set designs that do not reflect viet culture.

ive watch his scent of the green papaya, and didnt finish it cause its has a very boring plot and is filled with so much lust its almost like a pimp and hoe movie. (slave girl of this rich family grows up and falls in love with the son of the household. they have sex, but since she is a servant girl, he uses her for lust and actually has a girlfriend already...)

ive also seen his vertical ray of the sun, and there is so much incest, sex and more sex, it was like i was watching some sort of b-rated porno without the actual nudity. (this one sister is in love with her brother - intimately in love and sexual/incest innuendo is all over the screen. these older ladies start talking about the penis during making fried chicken.....man its a horrible film, i didnt watch it all)

so ive seen all his 3 movies, and cant say i like them.

who ever chose that movie for your heritage month, well all i can say is bad choice.

the only movie i recommend is 3 seaons from tony bui. his other movie green dragon isnt as good, actually i didnt like it at all.

3 seaons trails the life and stuggles of a caring lotus harvester, an innocent homeless orphan, and a cyclo driver with a big heart. issues from viet poetry, viet scenery, modern viet town life, ancient viet architecture, culture are all touched on.

some ppl say the movie was slow and they didnt like it, but most likely they didnt get the language. full impact is only attainable with vietnamese because of the symbolism and foreshadowing involved, though the english subs try to mimic as close as possible and are quite ok.

anways back to your photo. i really like. the color spectrum here is great and you captured so many textures.

hehe.. wonderful review!! funny because Cyclo is much like that director's other movies, strange sex fetishes, pimps, and gangs. i recognize the other movie titles (i'm sure my parents have seen them, the HBO and other cable channels play a lot of international movies here) but i dont remember those movies well, probably because they were bad :greetings:
